Planning Lighting and Colour

The purpose of colour and lighting within a music video is to help the audience have a greater understanding of the vibe the artist wishes to portray, which will correlate with the genre. Lighting will contribute to the video's mood and determine which genre it falls under, unless the artist rebels against typical codes and conventions. Colours help imitate the type of artist they are, their style and can portray their current emotions, as well as present hidden meanings.

A lot of consideration was gone into the choice of light sources, to clearly present to our audience a relationship building through a period of time, therefore days passing from morning to night. Typically naturalistic light throughout the video would be most conventional to our indie genre, however we planned to break these conventions. As a group we felt that in order to portray certain elements, one example being that not all relationships are perfect, low key lighting would help to do so indirectly, presenting 'shady' periods. However, there are many areas where myself and the
group focus on naturalistic light, such as in the performance, highlighting how musically talented and pure our 'indie' artist is. The majority of the music video is filmed outside, meaning working with what ever light that was available, although mainly being during mid day with high key lighting, however we also completed filming indoors in a section of the music video. As a group we have filmed Georgia and Drew inside his house in bed, as we felt it's a very central location for any relationship. Obviously with it being dark outside at the time
we needed unnatural lighting. In order for us to follow conventions, we felt it was a good idea to have dim, low key lighting, with fairy lights hanging from the wall to connote a calm and comfy atmosphere, highlighting the characters emotions. Another unconventional element was the unnatural lighting from Drew's cigarette and lighter. This goes against typical indie codes and conventions, however making the characters have an edge, which can often be appealing to a wider audience.

Within our music video, we aim to use a variety of colours, connoting mixed emotions. Obviously all colours have their significance and a lot of them reflect on our characters. Within Georgia's
performance she is seen to be wearing red, black and denim blue. The red lipstick, bandanna and tartan scarf dominate her image and suggest passion; passion for music and passion for love. This ordeal is backed up as soon as she begins to play the guitar, her passion for music shines as her raw talent is highlighted, with the lyrics speaking about their relationship. The colour black creates mystery, an element where we  chose to rebel against conventions, and the denim blue ties in with her 'indie' style, which is in fact a colour that speaks the true through verbal expression; relating directly to Georgia and the song itself. The red lipstick worn ties together with the scarf, in the way red holds relevant meaning of the emotions felt internally in terms of her relationship; presenting their relationship as a battle, which in fact give an
audience something to think about. Within the Brick Lane shots, Georgia's black clothing is broken down by a denim jacket and a checkered top tied around her waist. These items of clothing and the colours used bring out more of the typical indie style, therefore following the indie genre codes and conventions. The fact that the colour tone down the black suggests that Georgia as a character also has softer sides to her personality. The fact that her makeup is more pale toned draws more attention to the couples relationship, making it the central focus instead of just Georgia the artist, which I feel is vital to make a successful video.

Lighting and colour will assist myself and the group to create a music video wearing the colours that connote meaning and possible even their emotions. It helps to consider them in order to also be conventional to the indie codes and conventions, because rebelling against them too much will make an unsuccessful video for a small time artist starting out in the music industry. Lighting is also relevant and will always need to be considered. As a group we have used it to our advantage, in terms of portraying time passing, looking back into the past with the memories that have been made as well as the present, and the emotions that are now upon our artist, Georgia.

Planning Editing

Editing is important within our music video as it is the way in which the video itself is put together through different shots, creating a final product that flows throughout but creating continuity. It is responsible for making the music video run smoothly to create a variety of different emotions and effects, without jumpy and unrelated shots in between. It gives the audience a greater understanding of the narrative and conventions of the music video, which as a result draws in their attention if the editing is done well. Editing is also responsible for highlighting main characters and portraying the narrative with the underlining meaning. By putting simple shots together, adding cuts and transitions creates a story; something that's visually appealing for an audience to watch, understand the concept of and listen to. Final Cut within my group is used to edit and with the variety of tints and effects provided we are able to play around; finding out which suits what shot best, which can as a result makes it run smoothly so that an audience can enjoy it.

Obviously a majority of our music video is to connote the past and all the memories that are shared by 2 people in a relationship in the present. This is done through flashback editing styles. A flashback is a scene that takes the person in the present back in time to a specific time in their lives they wish to remember, recounting events that have happened in the past. There are many effects in which can make it obvious to our audience that the scene is
from the past, for example putting colour effects on top such as grey-scale, monochrome or sepia, if the picture is choppy or slightly blurred and so on; this given the audience clarity on how to differentiate past from present, however it's made even easier to do so in our music video. Within our music video the chorus will represent the present and the scenes in between will represent the past. We will also differentiate through lighting and adding colour effects on top, as well as possibly rounding the edges of the picture shown. I feel that these effects are conventional due to what it's portraying; memories of a love story and this is the path my group and I have chosen to go down. This will build a relationship with the audience as they will understand the characters relationship and that through time the amount of memories that form holds a great significance in someones life, which in most cases people can relate to even through family members.

Another editing style the group and myself wish to use is the predominant style being continuity editing. Continuity editing is the technique that gives the impression that the edits are motivated by the events in the reality on
screen. It enables the video to avoid the intrinsic discontinuity of the editing process to establish a logical flow
between individual shots. Where we have a variety of locations this will enable us as a group to make it run smoothly and make logical sense to our audience. Having this continuity running through the video builds a relationship with the audience as they understand whats going on, the underlying purpose, the characters emotions and so on. This is a typical editing style that follows our genres codes and conventions as it needs to make sense, and in order to so so it needs to run smoothly.

A different editing technique that was used were jump  cuts. A jump cut is where a sequel of shots are taken of the same subject from different angle that only vary slightly. This effect communicates to an audience of time passing. It enables the audience to understand time passing, however showing it in a way that is quick. Jump cuts also draw attention to the subject that is moving, which in this case is Georgia and Drew moving around throughout the night. This editing technique gives our audience a greater understanding of their relationship and underlying emotions that although what seems a perfect, happy relationship, there are actually unresolved issues. I feel that this is conventional in terms of linking lyrics to visuals, giving the audience a greater understanding of the whole picture, which may also be relatable.

Editing will assist my group when putting all our filming together to make it flow, so that is it visually appealing for an audience to watch, whilst listening to the song. The video put together will give our audience a greater understanding of the song and the underlying emotions of the narrative, as well as the codes on conventions that we follow.

Planning Artists Image

clothing
hair and makeup
purpose of
what effect they create
how conventional
build relationship

The purpose of clothing, hair and makeup is to connote an artists personality, feelings and emotions to the audience. This gives clarity and understanding of the narrative and its underlining meaning. Clothing can highlight features of someones personality through for example colour, e.g. black can represent either the artist being rebellious or that their unhappy, whereas if an artist was to be dressed in red, suggests that their romantic and affectionate. Hair and makeup can also suggest emotions as well as their current behaviour and how they wish to carry themselves; for example if an artists hair was styled in a neat up-do with minimal makeup on, suggests sophistication, whereas caked on makeup with a scruffy bun may suggest that that they don't look after themselves. When planing clothing hair and makeup, my group and I need to consider whether all elements are conventional to our narrative and genre, and also suggests the correct meaning and emotions, in order to build a relationship with our chosen target audience.

In the opening scene our characters Georgia and Drew are going to be dressed in casual and indie-like clothing. Georgia will be wearing a minimal amount of makeup, with a little eyeliner to be conventional to the typical indie girl and they both will have common hairstyles but with a slight
edge, for example Georgia's will be backcombed to give greater volume. Both elements will help to connote their comfort around each other. The audience instantly begin to build a relationship with the song, as many are able to relate to the 'comfort' stage of a relationship. The purpose of this style is to emphasis how close the couple are and they are happy enough to act and dress casually, not worrying about personal appearance when spending time together. The style of clothing is conventional in the way they follow the typical indie codes and conventions; clothing such as a denim jacket and checkered elements. The fact that the visuals will match the lyrics, means that our chosen audience will be able to relate to the couple, as they consist of typical elements in which happen in every relationship, such as the 'comfort stage'.

Another section of our music video, when the couple are seen in Brick Lane, the couple are dressed in darker coloured clothing such as black and emerald green. Within this part of the video, the
lighting has become low key showing the development through the day; from morning to evening and how it livens up as the video progresses. Georgia is seen to be wearing an emerald green tartan dress with a leather jacket on top, tights and Dr.Martins. With Drew wearing a tartan green top, a baseball jacket, black jeans and Dr.Martins. The fact that both are wearing elements of tartan green clothing and Dr.Martins makes it obvious to the audience that they are a couple and have a similar style, connoting how similar they are in personality. Again the elements of tartan, a leather jacket, as well as a baseball jacket are all very indie-like. This is conventional and follows our narrative well in helping to connote a relationship. As the night falls, in order to portray more of a lively atmosphere, where the two characters become more rebellious, going against Dyer's star theory. The style of clothing is very relatable for an audience, especially one of a similar age to our characters, therefore they begin to build a relationship and even possible set a trend.

Within the performance, this time it is Georgia alone which makes her the main focus, portraying herself as the commodity. Georgia is dressed in a black skirt, leather jacket and tights, black Dr.Martins (a theme that follows through in the majority of filming shots), a denim shirt and tartan green scarf. All of the elements of black gives off an edgy vibe, however is toned down by the tartan scarf, denim jacket and red bandanna, therefore creating a balance between following and rebelling against typical indie conventions. The iconography used, being the guitar screams out indie conventional, as its so popular within the indie genre that it's almost expected to be included. The guitar highlights her down to earth personality and passion for music. This also shows off that she hasn't only got a good and pure voice, but she is also instrumentally talented. Her dark, smokey eye shadowed eyes create mystery, but the red lipstick portrays passion; passion for music.

The artist image is an important element in which to get right, in order to attract the correct audience, and one that has a love for indie music. Her style needs to match the lyrics, personality as well as her genre in order to get it right to become successful within the indie genre and the music industry as a whole.

Planning Cinematography

The purpose of cinematography is to capture various images, put in an order to create a narrative and relationship with an audience. It gives an audience an understanding of what the song is about, portraying an artists personality, feelings and emotions. Cinematography is also a way of identifying and highlighting importance, for example that characters within the music video and who the artist is. It is important that my group and I use shots that are conventional to our narrative and genre.

When discussing which shots we wish to use within our music video, we as a group need to make sure that we have a variety, in order to keep the audience interested or else we run the risk of the video becoming bland and boring. One shot we felt would be successful was a focus shot. This shot will focus on the fallen apples placed on the ground; this will highlight significance between lyrics and visuals which creates understanding for an audience. The fact that it follows elements of Goodwin's theory through the use of apples is conventional to our narrative, and also highlights the metaphorical representation of their not so perfect relationship. However, unfortunately as a group after much discussion we have changed the image of our video, therefore wanting to drift away from the typical codes and conventions, and instead rebel against them slightly. So instead we would like to replace the focus shot on apples with a long and focus shot on 'The Apple Tree' pub. This will keep the significance between lyrics and visuals alive and will also portray to the audience that this pub holds something special for them as a couple, somewhere central where most memories have been made.

Another shot we intent to use is a close up. The close up will be of Georgia's guitar and will focus on specific instruments we are using within the video. By using a guitar highlights to our audience
the effort our group have gone to; learning the notes on the guitar so that the video is filled with quality, making it more realistic and eye catching. This close up will also create clarity to our audience that we as a group do follow some of the typical codes and conventions of our chosen genre, which makes the video very effective due to diversity throughout, keeping the audiences attention and not losing their concentration.

A third camera shot we wish to include is a high angle shot. The high angle shot will portray Georgia and Drew standing still in the middle of a fast moving crowd at night by Liverpool Street station. The fact that their stood still together whilst a wide range of diverse people move around
them, highlights how exclusive they are as a couple and are so in love. Although the image of the music video has changed to a more dark, eary and edgy look, this shot has underlying relation to the typical codes and conventions portraying such a strong relationship. This high angle shot will catch an audiences attention emotionally as most can relate to it or aspire for it later in life.

We as a group would also like to use a mid shot of the couple next to a bonfire as it burns. This will leave the location a mystery to the audience and gives the video an edgy vibe, being unique and different. It will be shot in low key lighting and the fire itself will be the only source of lighting. The fact that the lighting is limited will almost create silhouettes of the two, but still making it obvious to the audience what they are doing, such as melting marshmallows. This effective shot will create a relationship with the audience as they become aware of the couple bonding together which will emotionally touch them. It will also highlight diversity and make it interesting to watch, as we constantly change our location, lighting, camera shots and so on to create a memory effect of their relationship through time.

Our target audience will be able to build a relationship with the characters within the video through the variety of camera shots, all coming together to create a successful story on a typical teenage relationship. The facts that Georgia is such a relatable character in the way they she dresses and the lyrics she sings, makes it so easy for an audience to emotionally connect to.

Lyric Analysis

Once, once upon a time
Thought that you'd be mine
But then you let your colors shine                          Girl realises the boy wasn't what she thought he was.
I wanted to believe                                                  True colours shine for the worst.
That you were right for me
Well how could I be so naive

Now we're broken
Forget me not                                                         Relationship is broken.
I'm falling down and I can't stop

Let's go down to the apple tree
Naive as Adam and Eve                                         Girl metaphorically describes herself as the couple
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh                                                Adam & Eve, too naive to see her boyfriend cheat.
Let's go down to the apple tree
Fighting against gravity
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh

Falling too deep                                                    Wants him to fight for her and the relationship.
So can you catch me

Twice, twice I caught you out                                She let it go once, and her boyfriend took a chance     My head was in the clouds                                    and cheated again.
But I woke up and came around
To see, you play your stupid games                      Mind games are played.
Temptation in your way
Cause I went so fast from love to hate

Now I'm broken                                                    Girl is typically heartbroken.
Is this your plan
I'm falling down and I don't understand

Let's go down to the apple tree
As naive as Adam and Eve
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh
Et's go down to the apple tree                             Chorus repeated
Fighting against gravity
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh

Falling too deep
So can you catch me

You keep playing, you keep playing                    Mind games are continued through for e.g Jealousy.
I keep praying, I keep praying
That we could have been us
You keep playing, you keep playing
I keep saying, I keep saying
That it should have been us

So let's go down to the apple tree
As naive as Adam and Eve
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh                                              Chrous repeated
Let's go down to the apple tree
Fighting against gravity
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh

Falling too deep, can you catch me                                              She fell too deep in love with her
Falling too deep, mmmm, can you catch me                                boyfriend and lost independence.
Falling too deep, can you catch me, can you catch me
Falling too deep

-What are the hidden meanings of your song?
-how have the group lyric annotations, assist you with planning the micro elements, style, target audience and conventions of your chosen song?
-include your annotations

The song itself is very simple and straight forward, straight away in the first paragraph the audience are aware that the lyrics are about a relationship between two young adults, that unfortunately didn't work out as true colours were shone. The relationship is broken up with the male character cheating on the female, not only once but twice due to getting away with it the first time. Metaphorically, she compares herself to Adam & Eve as she considered they had a natural and strong relationship which drew them together. She describes how she is now heartbroken but yet still willing to forgive offering him the chance to pick her back up again openhearted, despite any consequences.

The lyric annotations completed by my group and i have assisted us with planning micro-elements of our chosen song, that are conventional to our chosen genre:

Mise-en-scene
  • Clothing - we have chosen a style of clothing with black elements of clothing to rebel slightly against indie conventions. This shows the audience that the couple are very similar and share a match in personality. This may also in fact create connects with the audience as they can relate.
  • Location- We have selected a variety of locations in which we will film, such as Brick lane, Camden, Drew's house, a forest and a block of flats. Locations such as the forest, where the performance is filmed is very conventional to the indie genre, however the others help more in terms of the storyline of their relationship.
  • Positioning of Characters - Georgia, the artist, as well as girlfriend to character, Drew in the music video is positioned in the middle of the camera in the forest. She is seen to be playing guitar within the performance, which highlights the indie codes and conventions and portrays her down to earth personality and passion for music.
  • Lighting/Colour - During the performance section of the video high key lighting will be used to connote a positive atmosphere, maybe one that is letting go of all the bad, which may suggest letting go of her relationship for good. This also creates an understanding for the audience of the differentiation between performance and narrative. In some areas of the video the use of natural and high key lighting will be used in the narrative so theres clarity between narative and performance as some are filmed in low key lighting.
  • Iconography - A guitar will be used in the performance section to meet the audiences expectations, as it is a typical feature portrayed within indie genre music videos that is extremely conventional. This is to purely highlight their instrumental talent, along side their singing and to give off that sense of purity.

Major Record Labels

Major Record Labels
Definition:
Large companies within the music industry that may also own smaller record labels

Task:
Focus on the UK

1.    Who are the major labels in the UK currently?
2.    Who do the major labels manage?
3.    Do the major labels own smaller companies and which artists do they manage?
4.    Are there any links within Media e.g TV/Film/Magazines etc

Independents

Definition: Music labels that operate one or a few music labels

Independent labels can be just as successful but operate from a smaller company base. They are traditionally known as offering more ‘organic’ music rather than manufactured mainstream although you may disagree!

Task:
1.    Identify some of the independent labels in the UK and a brief history of each.
2.    What artists are signed to these labels

Task:
Consider the following questions:
1.    Is it right from a music point of view as well as an industry point of view that 4 companies dominate the music industry?
2.    What affect do you think this has on the industry?
3.    Are Independent labels as successful as major labels, how do you judge this?
4.    Is there anything that independent labels offer the industry that the majors do not?

Storyboards

Storyboards
·         What is the purpose of a storyboard?
·         How did you use your primary and secondary research that you carried out, to plan your music video?
·         How did you and your group storyboard your music video?
·         How did you share the responsibility?
·         Did you follow your storyboards, or did you make changes?
·         Include your storyboards

The purpose of a storyboard is to order shots in which make up a story. Each shot switches regularly to portray a change for example in light, setting, camera angle and so on. Putting each shot into order from start to finish allows the camera crew and producers to follow a plan during filming; knowing exactly what to do, which as a result reduces time being wasted and money being lost. Without a storyboard the group an I would have no visual reference to go by, whereas by having one creates a vision. Each frame we included within our storyboards consisted of stating what camera shot, iconography and lighting used, the actors that were in the shot, as well as the sound and editing within. There was then a clear description and picture describing what we wished to view including all elements; creating that clear, descriptive vision. All frames are put into a strict logical order, something that makes sense and flows smoothly. Having the storyboards made our group more focused as there was an urgency to be organised in order for the music video to be successful; this was to be done well in advance before beginning any filming taking our target audience into consideration. Creating a story board allowed us to come up with a general outline, at the same time as coming up with additional ideas to better the narrative. Developing ideas will better the overall outcome would natural increase the general success rate of our music video, potentially gaining additional viewers within our target audience.

When conducting primary and secondary research it enabled the group and myself to gain additional ideas that could be included within our own music video storyboard. Elements of secondary research that was carried out was to look at artists YouTube videos. By doing so we are able to overlook successful conventions that have been released into the music industry with a high success rate, views and likes on YouTube, keeping our target audience in mind. Conducting both primary and secondary research allows us to understand the success criteria of a music video and gain inspiration. An example of this was using the bath scene idea from 'We Found Love' by Rihanna, as we felt it flowed with our narrative, as well as being effective and dramatic for our final scenes. An example  Following these conventions will determine the feedback we receive by our target audience. We planned to use a variety of Nina Nesbitt's conventions that have been successful within her videos, as obviously hers meet our genres conventions. Individual conventions such as iconography and lighting need to be taken into careful consideration to allow the audience to be clear on the genre and enjoy what is conventionally expected. All in all we aim to make our target audiences experience enjoyable, making it understandable and clear of what our music video is about and it's underlying meanings. After carrying out our primary research, being our vox pops and questionnaire we were able to gather up to date feedback; using questions specific to us and our music video, which as a result enabled us take on board opinions from people that are the most influential on our success rate. The newly gathered responses helped to put our story board together, including successful conventions that our audience wants to see.

The way in which our group storyboarded our music video was fair and efficient. All group members, including myself came together giving individual opinions and ideas towards what we wanted the music video to include. Alongside our personal ideas, we then also included elements in which our target audience fed to us through our primary research, as well as the ideas we collected from other successful artists music videos. Obviously when combining all these aspects in to one, the group and myself needed to consider that there was a general flow and that all elements were conventional and that our lyrics were parallel to our visuals. We wanted to use a range of different camera shots and angles, highlighting key conventions , such as the use of a guitar. The audience then instantly associate the use of a guitar with the indie genre. As a group we planned to have the storyboard completed prior to filming and discussed when and where we would be filming our narrative. By doing so, this would ensure that we used our time wisely and effectively. Overall, the group and I wanted to build a strong relationship with our target audience, therefore by including their feedback within our final product will help us to do so.

After an in detail discussion we chose to split the group in to two pairs. Each pair would either work on the camera shots and what was in each shot, the other pair focusing on how it was be displayed in through drawing pictures. Together we decided on the iconography and lighting that were to be used, as well as the characters involved. Luckily we all had a clear vision on what all group members wanted within the music video, therefore sharing responsibility and putting the storyboard together was made a lot easier. This uniformed process ensured that we were happy with our shared responsibilities, and was able to put together a storyboard for our music video that would appeal to our target audience and follow indie conventions.

We luckily managed to follow the majority of our storyboard whilst filming, as myself and the group shared the same views on what we wished our music video to include. An example of this, from the beginning we knew that we wanted portray Georgia as a individual, as well as convey the passing of time through lighting. This enabled us to portray Georgia as the commodity, making it clear to the audience who our artist is straight away, avoiding any confusion. Elements in which we did not follow were changed within the editing process. When placing our footage in order we simply swapped a few shots, as we felt by doing so it would make the video more visually appealing for our target audience. Overall, I felt that having the storyboards enabled the group and myself to refer back to something and keep on target. It set a rough guideline for the narrative in which group members performed and filmed. We kept to a lot of our original storyboard, for example in the performance section and its camera angles, location and lighting. However we chose to change elements such as using additional footage. We shot extra camera shots in Camden then originally expected of a pub called The Apple Tree. We chose to use these shots as it followed Goodwin's theory in the way it it links lyrics to visuals. This builds a greater link between the two and incorporates more of an indie alternative edge. To conclude, the group and myself followed the vast majority of our storyboard whilst filming, however did change a few elements to better the overall product. It followed indie conventions, as well as rebelling against them to be diverse and unique in order to attract a greater audience to better the success rate.

Planning Setting and Iconography

The purpose of setting within a music video is to is to set the scene, creating an understanding for the audience of what the video may be about. Location can also be a way of portraying the artist feelings and emotions by where they like to spend their time, for example if an artist is upset, they may shy away in a dark and bland room where they can hide their emotions. Iconography can be used within a music video to narrate the story, which may also connote the artists personality; through their materialistic items, house decor, whether they smoke or not and  so on. When planning setting and iconography for our music video, we need to make sure it relates to and follows our chosen genre codes and conventions.

The settings in which we have planned to film in as a group, helps to portray our chosen genre and narrative being based upon a relationship. We wish to have a mixture of the past and present to show how the relationship changes with time. The setting we wish to start with, is in a Theydon Bois field; we will shot the couple against a single tree at the top of a hill to connote the two spending time together alone. The fact that the audience are exposed to what seems like the perfect relationship, makes them feel aspirational as they want the same. Another location we have planned to film in, is at Drew's house in Waltham Abbey in his bedroom. Obviously this is a typical place
where a couple would spend time when in a relationship, so we felt it was conventional within our chosen narrative. To portray our 'memory' scenes connoting the past, we decided we'd take a trip to Brick Lane. Within Brick lane we thought it was a prime location to show the couple behaving rebelliously together. All
these locations show the individual stages, both good and bad in
their relationship and all the memories they've shared in the past. The audience may connect to the
narrative as most stages of a typical relationship follow the same path, in which many have experienced. For the performance section we plan to film in Theydon Bois again, however this time at the Village Green. The performance shots will be shot in an aesthetically pleasing area; Georgia standing up in a supposing 'apple tree' singing with a pond in the background, therefore building a relationship between lyrics and visuals, following elements of Goodwin's theory. The fact that we plan to follow elements of Goodwin's theory and regularly change the location maintains the audiences attention

After discussion with my group, we decided to change our narrative; making it less of a sweet, perfect and romantic relationship, we decided we wanted to make it more edgy, therefore rebelling slightly against the typical codes and conventions to grab our audiences attention. The first location
we wanted to use within our music video was Camden Town. Camden itself has a very funky atmosphere, where you witness all types of clothing and accessories for various subcultures. It is a very edgy area that breathes a creative underground energy. Many shots will be taken here in mid day, including one of the couple sitting closely by a canal watching boats pass whilst surrounded by block of flats. We decided as a group to keep the location of Brick Lane as we felt it was ideal for the image we wish to portray. Brick Lane is very similar to Camden Town in the way that there is such diversity where ever you walk; Brick Lane is a very traditional flea-market affair offering customers a rich multiplicity of
products. This filming is shot in the evening when the natural light begins to disappear, the fairy lights come out and the vibe picks up. Shots we wish to use, such as the couple smoking shows another side of their personality and behavior; rebelling against typical codes and conventions. Another location we have planned to film in is Clerkenwell in Greater London at a pub called 'The Apple Tree'. As we had decided as a group to get away from the location in country areas that follow the typical codes and conventions, the group and myself
wished to find an alternative way of linking lyrics to visuals. By filming at this pub, portrays to the audience that this place may somehow hold an important significance, for example representing them as a couple in the way it's their personal central location that holds the most memories. We wanted to portray this significance due to 'Let's go down to the Apple Tree' being repeated in the chorus.

The iconography we wish to include within our music video, helps to build the relationship between lyrics and visuals. The group and I have planned to use the rope swing hanging from the tree in the Theydon Bois field, portraying shots of the couple spending quality time together. This shows the audience their love for each other in the way they are their true selves in front of one another. In brick lane the couple will be seen smoking together whilst laying on the pavement, which connotes
their rebellious behaviour. All the changes in behaviour help the audience understand how alike the two are and the supposing strong relationship they share; a bit too perfect to be true. Through the narrative, although it is unconventional the audience are able to connect, as they have a clear understanding that not all relationships are perfect, they all have individual problems. When shooting the bedroom scene, typical iconography in used through decor and is designed to suit their conventional teenage age group. The fact that our audience are then able to relate to the artist being in the same generation, they can pick up on similarities between themselves and the artist. This as a result makes it more enjoyable for them to watch the music video. The performance percentage of the music video shot at the tree in the Theydon Bois Village Green, will show the tree surrounded by apples that are all randomly placed on the floor, making a connection to the chorus lyrics. The fact that all the apples have fallen from the tree, metaphorically represent their underlying problems within their relationship. The fact that the apples have such a significance, makes it more of an interesting video to view by our target audience.

Again my group and I have changed some elements of iconography to suit the new image we wish to portray, however most will be kept the same. The iconography used in Brick Lane, for example the couple seen to be smoking will remain and so will the meaning behind it; showing their rebelious side when they're together. The scene shot in the
bedroom will also remain, however previous to this scene we will be taking camera shots of the outside a block of flats in order to portray a different area that he supposedly lives in. The bedroom
shots of the couple will portray 2 sides of their relationship; where they are happy, yet underlying feelings are portrayed when drew's asleep, when Georgia gives off another impression. This again gives something for the audience to relate to, therefore connecting with Georgia, the lyrics and whats being portrayed. Having elements of the music video that are relatable, something that an audience can connect with is very important and was well thought out by myself and the group. We wish to satisfy our target audience and also gain a larger one.
