As a group we completed some primary research by putting together a ten question music video
questionnaire. We felt that by doing so, we are able to gather feedback for
what an audience like to see within a music video, what their favourite music
genre is and so on. This then enabling us to analyse and figure out what the
most popular choices are, to then take into account when producing our own music
video and what codes and conventions to follow. I feel that questionnaires with a mixture of open and closed questions are
important in order to get varied responses from different age categories to
find out what features to include, in order to produce a successful music
video.
As a group we made sure all questions were relevant to music videos, enabling us to get useful feedback. An example of a question we asked '"In a music video, how do you like the artist to be represented?"' and gave 6 different options for the person taking the questionnaire to choose from. This question directly links to what codes and conventions an audience likes most and what are most likely to draw their attention. Together we decided to question 40 individuals as, as a groups we felt it was a reasonable amount of people to gain a variety of opinions from randomly aged individuals. Due to there being 4 team member, we felt it was fair to take responsibility to question 10 people each. This task is an extremely beneficial piece of primary research that is recent and valid, giving us a up to date view of what people like within music videos.
This post demonstrates a good understanding of why questionnaires are important to consider, when researching into a target audience.
